The town’s planning committee have coloured off the drawing board and are revving the engine to build this monster of a festival. Busy creating the incredible new site, Boomtown HQ have chosen an ideal spot that is situated on a vast family run private estate in South England, with so many new spaces to explore at this year’s Boomtown it’s going to be epic!
Boomtown 2010 was merely a taster of what the 2011 immersive and escapist vision holds! As a creative team, the Boomtown crew have been able to dramatically upgrade every stage and effectively double the size and scope of the festival so that this year you can expect bedlam to resurface with a new and rejuvenated clarity on the streets of Boomtown!
With 12 distinct and very different areas including 4 brand spanking new zones, there is so much just waiting to be discovered. These new additions will include showcasing the world renowned Bassline Circus as it rolls into town with a stage that hosts the likes of Foreign Beggars, Feed Me, Ms Dynamite and Toddla T and Serocee. Beyond the suburban area of the bassline circus is an outlying village where deep within its village hall you will find a diverse collaboration of performers, artists, musicians, and poets into a unique, magical and chilled out environment. Moving back to citylife the Boomtown officials have given the green light to build Mayfair Avenue, a more elegant and upmarket district with a casino, a gentleman’s club, hotels, banks, and daily roller discos. Also being sanctioned is the opportunity to visit Old Town as the gates get unlocked for only four days this summer. Residents of Boomtown, for the first time ever, will be able to step into a time machine and witness how their grandparents used to party with old skool disco’s blaring out nostalgic music from the 50’s onwards.
On top of all these new areas there are of course the familiar faithfuls: The Town Centre (Main Stage) where Gogol Bordello, Bad Manners and The Selecter can be found serenading the towns folk; The Lion’s Den (Reggae Stage) showcasing the biggest names in reggae, dub and roots including Barrington Levy, Capleton, Tippa Irie and Gentleman’s Dub Club; The Invisible Circus, featuring high octane big ska bands and breath taking circus skills; The Devil Kicks Dancehall, a twisted cross between a nineteenth century dancehall, a fairground ghost train and deserted 1980’s train station; Downtown, the seedy undercarriage of the city’s otherwise reputable veneer becomes apparent around every street corner and down every alleyway of this despicable part of town! And finally, not to be left out, the kids have created their very own Kidz Town with workshops teaching everything from pizza making to graffiti, zorbing, giant inflatable slide, the Bristol Fun Bus and many, many other activities and adventures!
It has been the hottest and most closely guarded secret of 2011, forget the Royal honeymoon, the rumours on the street have all been about where this year’s fantasy city of Boomtown will pop up next... Well, the wait is over and Boomtown can now reveal it will take place in a sleepy, mysterious hollow, deep in the heart of Hampshire! The specific site location will remain a secret, to be given to ticket holders in a couple of weeks.
With under 500 tickets remaining anyone who is still to get their ticket to the biggest fair in town should act quickly to bag one of the few remaining spots!
The Boomtown town planners are busy hammering, sanding and polishing their finery to prepare for the arrival of the masses. This year along with all the amazing new areas and expansion of the site, there will also be a huge Glastonbury style fence around the perimeter to ensure the town’s folk are protected and the city gates do not exceed their limits, with some city guards on standby to assist anyone attempting to penetrate the city walls away from the town and back to where they came from!
For all those buying passes through the deposit scheme, this is a reminder that outstanding balances must be paid before midnight on Sunday 31st July. All tickets not purchased will go back on resale the next day.
Full weekend camping ticket is only £93 and includes; 4 days and nights of unadulterated fun spread out over 22 inventive stages and areas in a perfect setting! http://www.boomtownfair.co.uk/page/buy-tickets
