BOOMTOWN FAIR, BIGGER, BETTER AND BY FAR THE BEST YET!

THURDAY 9th – SUNDAY 12th AUGUST 2012
MATTERLY ESTATE – WINCHESTER

Arcadia @ BoomTown Fair 2012:

BoomTown Mayor’s Mix: http://soundcloud.com/championsoundldn/mayor-of-boomtown-the-boomtown/s-cZpCe

Skatepark Pages photo Montage to follow very soon.

The untameable beast of BoomTown Fair once again took over the Matterly Estate in Winchester last weekend (9th – 12th August). Unleashing madness and mayhem within the streets of a mock-up, make-believe, fantasy town for 28,000 lucky residents to embark on a voyage to infinity and beyond!

BoomTown Fair does things its own way, steering clear from the usual festival formula BoomTown transports the festival goer into a fully working town. Behind the gilded walls of the town are all sorts of treasures just waiting to be found, from semi-clad jelly wrestling at the Bearded Kitten’s Bank, accidently stumbling across the secret entrance to the Prohibition Den via a pensioners caravan, or 20ft fiery tornadoes twirling outside the Lion’s Den, there is entertainment behind every nook and cranny and at BoomTown imagination is boundless!

With the town Mayor taking in all the feedback from the 2011 residents, this year’s annual fair was a rip roaring success. With the noticeable expansion of camping facilities, a new, friendlier security team, a crack down on graffiti and a general feeling of mutual respect and love in the air, 2012 saw the festival take it to the next level and all its residents take one small step for BoomTown and one almighty aerial summersault for the future of UK festivals by raising the bar higher than it’s ever been set before!

The secret to BoomTown’s success is the collaborative nature of the project; with over 8,000 crew working on the event throughout the year; the creativity, artistic skill, bonkers ideas and sheer hard graft that goes into building a whole new town for nearly 30,000 people is unfathomable! And then add in to the mix the BoomTown residents and the streets come alive with body paint, fancy dress, glitter and big, happy smiling faces filled with fun!

Highlights of the weekend included a secret appearance by the legendary Jimmy Cliff, who set the Town Centre alight with sunshine vibes and nostalgic tunes for a perfect way to kick start the Sunday evening. Nightly 40ft mushroom cloud pyrotechnics; the new Hidden Woods stage, set up like a beach bar under the sun dappled canopy of the surrounding trees that provided the perfect spot to sit and soak up some live reggae. Then there was the awe inspiring Arcadia! This mega spider structure of lasers, fire, pounding bass, moveable limbs and swirling acrobats, created a mind expanding experience that all who experienced will never forget!

Arcadia crash landed at BoomTown for the first time this year and took over a whole section of the site for the Arcadia Spectacular show, normally reserved for the fields of Worthy Farm at Glastonbury but this year the settled in to their true hometown of BoomTown! Due to the gargantuan success of the combined brains of BoomTown and Arcadia, the BoomTown officials are ecstatic to announce that Arcadia will certainly be back next year with more colossal flaming, moveable metal sculptures to undoubtedly shock, awe and blow the minds of 2013 Boomtown residents!

Keep an eye on the BoomTown website (BoomTownfair.co.uk) for upcoming details for BoomTown Fair 2013, and if that is too long to wait, the mad professor minds behind BoomTown are putting on the End of the World party on 21st December, details can be found on the facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/

BOOMTOWN FAIR BACKGROUND:
Going in to its 4th year, BoomTown is unlike any other festival: the legend of BoomTown tells it was once a small but prosperous retreat now overhauled into a land of lawless rebels, with only the town official’s to uphold its former glory. The 2011 heavily themed event saw the festival sell out for a third time in its three year history with the festival goers brining as much of the entertainment to the show as the organisers.
With so much packed into the huge mock town, last year’s highlights included; high octane headline performance from Gogol Bordello, more reggae, dub and ska then you can shake a stick at, dance-offs, marriages and body crunching bass round the clock from Bassline Circus and The Lion’s Den as well as all the hidden gems scattered around the town in tiny nooks and crannies, eccentric side streets and secret alleyways!

ARCADIA BACKGROUND:
Arcadia first came into existence in 2007, spawned from an ambitious group of craftsmen whose imaginations border on madness! Over the past five years it has evolved into a multifaceted entity drawing an ever growing number of eccentric brains, skills and visionaries into the mix. Already a mainstay fixture at some of the UK and Ireland’s leading festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival and Electric Picnic; the Arcadia machine is galvanised by the audience’s reaction to this untamed beast that wreaks havoc where-ever it treads!
For the past three years at Glastonbury, Arcadia has been given free reign over their own field. Slotted in next to the likes of Shangri-La and Block 9, they have been given the space and opportunity to develop, attempt and achieve the unimaginable. This year at BoomTown, Arcadia will be taking over a whole zone of the town with Sci-Fi, flame throwing, smoke blasting, fully moving structures complete with exclusively designed sets and gravity defying aerial trapeze shows!

He shares the bill over the weekend with; Alborosie, Tanya Stephens, Natty, Gappy Ranks, David Rodigan and a bucket load of reggae and dancehall’s living legends! Taking his rightful place as the Saturday night headliner at one of the UK’s only dedicated reggae, dub and dancehall festival stages - The Lion’s Den, Beenie Man is all set to blow the minds and ears of his eagerly awaiting UK fans. Having been on the scene since he was a wee tot; Beenie Man shot to fame at age five and has accrued hundreds of singles, over 20 albums and numerous awards, including a Grammy and DJ of the Year. The accolades and achievements of Beenie Man are only outnumbered by the popularity of this self proclaimed, but undeniable, ‘King of Dancehall’. Not only has he been at the forefront of the genre ever since releasing his first record, "Too Fancy" at the tender age of 7 in 1981, but has been largely responsible for growing it into the international phenomenon it is today. The BoomTown Mayor and all at BoomTown council are ready with their lifetime achievement award for this epically huge living legend and are considering giving him the highest honour of all, a gilded key to the Boom-City!

Over at the other end of BoomTown’s niche but vast musical spectrum are Ska-Core heroes, Capdown. Known for mixing up ska, punk, hardcore, reggae in a style that is unique only to them; Capdown deliver an ever-political message through their renowned ferocious and incredible live performances. Numerous tours of the UK have built up a massive grass roots following; their independently-released albums and singles have garnered high praise from everyone from Kerrang! to The Times. They will be showing the folks of BoomTown’s Town Centre stage exactly what a Sunday afternoon at BoomTown is all about; high-octane skanking punk vibes!

With a whole host of top of the range acts, mind bending new areas and double the camping space, 2012 will see BoomTown evolve into BoomCity with the town’s population expanding from 2011. With the joining of forces of BoomTown and festival monsters Arcadia, extra room and tickets have been supplied, to accommodate the fact that the BoomTown residents over the 9th – 12th August will be involved in two of the festival world’s most epic experiences for the price of one!

If everything from Reggae to Rap, Ska to Swing and Breaks to Balkan, takes your fancy and you just can’t wait for the fun of the festival to kick off, the generous BoomTown Mayor has made a special taster mix of what’s to come this summer in the normally sleepy settlement of BoomTown... Sit back, turn it up and skank it out... the summer is just around the corner: http://soundcloud.com/championsoundldn/mayor-of-boomtown-the-boomtown/s-cZpCe

New Kulez mixtape "Euro-Trip" coming 1st June - Don't miss out.

Like a lot of underground emcees Kulez came up through the ranks battling and freestyling. He worked his way up from local club nights to being crowned champion at nationwide and worldwide competitions.
By the age of 17 he had been flown out internationally to rep the UK and was already a prominent name in British Hip Hop with no official releases.
At 18, Kulez released his debut single independently, as well as a mixtape which was a mix of tracks he had been making since his teens. His bars told stories of skipping class, making easy money, house parties and dumping girls, stories that a lot of people growing up around that age can relate to.

Jman - 4D Reality
Some next level shit here from Jman who has recently moved from Plymouth to Bristol to expand his musical and life journey further still. By the looks of the latest video he is on the road to success. The video and lyrics are simply sic - nuff said.

Ok plenty of new tunes and vids for viewing pleasure to get through in this post - just feast your eyes on this little lot from James.

First up some DnB dance floor smashers from

Marcus Intalex

Both as an artist and a DJ, Marcus Intalex represents the forefront of soulful musical drum & bass. Heading up the legendary Soul:r label, he has worked with artists such as Calibre and S.P.Y and and always sought to release quality music with lasting appeal. Marcus's DJ sets have earned him a reputation as a tastemaker, not afraid to test crowds with a fresh high quality selection from across the spectrum of drum & bass. A passion for techno runs deeply through his music, demonstrated once again by recent solo tracks such as 'Airbourne,' and his four-to-the-floor selection is second-to-none. He represents Soul:ution with residencies in Manchester and at London's Fabric plus a radio show for Red Bull Music Academy. In 2011 Marcus is touring extensively across the globe, including the USA and Australasia to celebrate the release of his debut solo album '21' which features collaborations with Calibre, S.P.Y, Lynx, Fierce and MC DRS.

2011 was a big year for Villem. When his track 'Do You? I Wanna' dropped on Symmetry it was played across the board from DJ Hype to Commix to Calyx & Teebee at Glastonbury, and played on Kiss FM, 1XTRA and heard across the country most weekends.

2011 also saw Essential Forms/Who Knows on Mars Records (an Ingredients Records offshoot), and was heavily supported by Doc Scott, Fracture, Mark System & Spectrasoul.

2012 is set to be another big year in this producers career with 'Solar Plexus/Hush' dropping on Samurai Red Seal (already finding heavy support from LTJ Bukem, Lenzman, Alix Pirez, Foreign Concept).

Also a single forthcoming on Ingredients (Spring Back/Acouphenes - support from Break, Dub Phizix, Skeptical), and a collaborative 12" on Utopia (Always/Cali Sleaze - support from dBridge).

Born in Ipswich, Villem (Andrew Wilson) began his adventure with music by buying up early rave tape packs.

Turntables and buying records would come next via Redeye Records in Ipswich, buying off the legendary DJ Freedom, and the transition from DJ to producer was inevitable.

Villem felt to have the best grounding for a musician would be to learn an instrument, so he bought a piano and set about learning how to play jazz.

Within a year he was studying piano at Kingston University surprising not only himself but others around him by how quickly he was learning.

Whilst at university he studied musical composition, learning how to score for instruments such as the prepared piano, saxophone, trombone and violin, earning himself awards and special mentions along the way.

With his musical composition background, Villem worked in the advert industry creating music on demand for Audi, Russian Standard Vodka, Rowntrees and Footlocker.

Once completing his degree he focused his energies back into the rave culture and began writing drum and bass, quickly finding his feet and the support of all the major DJs (DJ Hype, Bailey, Laurent Garnier, Doc Scott, Break, Flight, dBridge, Alix Perez and many more).

Now reaping the rewards of his hard work he has tracks signed to Good Looking Records, Ingredients, Symmetry, Samurai Red Seal and Utopia Music and is building a reputation as a producer that brings heavy dance floor energy with funk, soul and feel good vibes.

Villem is also one half of dark stepper duo, Mute who along side label boss Mako run the burgeoning imprint Utopia Music, releasing music by themselves and people they respect, such as dBridge, Break, Survival, The Sect, Andyskopes and Mikal.
