Revolution Skatepark Update

Revolution Newsletter 48 April/May 2009
Please feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone who may be interested in any of our events. Alternatively, if you no longer wish to receive mail-outs from us, just reply with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject line.

Volcom Comp::
For the third year in a row Volcom Stone presents Wild in the Parks - This year at Revolution Skatepark, Broadstairs, Kent. With free entry, free food, free drink and prizes for all, you'd do well to come and session the park for the chance to win a place at the European Finals in Sweden to win one of the two flight tickets to the US WITP Champs.

With divisions for Under 15's and 16 and Over where you'll get to skate, best trick style, without the pressure of skating alone this session is not to be missed.

Wild in the Parks was born when we noticed something needed to change with the amateur skateboard contest scene. We decided to take a different path - the road less travelled - and offer something slightly removed. For those of you that are fed up with days of 1-minute runs, over and over again, we came up with a new jam format that alleviates both stress and boredom at events.

Wild In The Parks is for young up and coming skaters to come out and show their skills. Think of the event like a best trick contest; skaters are judged on the tricks they pull, never on their bails – and they are never left with the pressure of skating alone.

Wild In The Parks is about giving back to the skaters. With this in mind, the series is entirely free. There are absolutely no entry fees, you get to eat some free food, skate, cheer on your friends and go home with a ton of free prizes.

Schedule:
11:30 Registration
13:00 Contest Start
17:30: Prize Giving

WIN A SIGNED COPY OF THE NEW ASHER ROTH CD::

New US hip-hop sensation, Asher Roth, whose “I Love College” is flying high on the US iTunes chart and who is being tipped for huge things this year by hip hop royalty Kanye West, Ludacris and Andre 3000, has his debut SRC /Universal single, “I Love College” and his eagerly awaited debut album “Asleep In The Bread Aisle” simultaneously released on April 20th via Island Records. This 22 yr old suburban kid first came to attention last year when his mixtape The Greenhouse Effect aka The Greatest Mixtape Ever, became one of the most downloaded and buzzed about mixtapes of the year. Asher Roth quickly emerged as a breath of fresh air: a hip-hop anomaly grounded enough to take pride in his suburban roots but confident and talented enough to have already earned the respect of rap giants such as 50 Cent, Ludacris, Akon, and Andre 3000. Roth doesn’t talk about life on the streets but he will give astute and singular observations on everything from politics to partying. Here is a genuine student of hip-hop; an artist deftly able to weave complex rhymes and laugh out loud couplets. We have a personally SIGNED copy of this CD from Asher himself up for grabs this week here at the skate park. To get your hands on this must have album answer the question below. You can find the answer at www.asherrothmusic.com and www.myspace.com/asherroth.

NASS 2009 MUSIC LINE UP - CONFIRMED

CKY to headline Saturday Night Main Stage Relentless NASS Festival 2009!

3rd Stage Also Confirmed

The West Chester four piece consisting of Chad I Ginsburg, Deron Miller, Jess Margera & Matt Deis top the main stage on Saturday the 11th July 2009. The highly anticipated announcement for Saturdays headline slot is now fulfilled and with over a 9years of rock ‘n roll riffage under their belts, CKY will guarantee a night of moshing madness.

CKY (stands for ‘Camp Kill Yourself’) formed just before the turn of the millennium and have since released four studio albums, toured with Guns ‘n Roses, opened for Metallica and toured extensively through North America, Europe and Australia. Their headline appearance at Relentless NASS is their first UK show since their sell out show at the Astoria in London back in June 2005.

The guys recently signed to the legendary Roadrunner Records who will release their latest studio album ‘Carver City’ on the 19th May 2009. Carver City is CKY’s first album of new material since 2005’s An Answer Can Be Found, and the band’s first studio offering since its split from Island Records in 2006. It has taken over 2 years to make ‘Carver City’ in which time the 10 years of tension caught up with the band Chad I Ginsburg says the band “ended up physically beating each other up at once on their tour bus,” CKY took a year off and came back blazing. The result ‘Carver City’ “sonically, our best effort to date.” – Chad I Ginsburg.
This summer, to coincide with the resurgence of CKY and the release of Carver City, Ginsburg, Miller, Margera and Deis will be hitting Relentless NASS Festival, bringing the unique energy and atmosphere that only a CKY show can.

Supporting CKY will be Zane Lowe, bringing his live set to the main stage at this years Relentless Nass Festival. The New Zealand born presenter has become renowned for his frenetic live show, incredible DJ skills and his presenting work on MTV2’s show Gonzo. Zane has a busy summer ahead with a number of festival appearances all over the world and Relentless Nass is excited about the confirmation to say the least.

CKY and Zane Lowe top the bill for the Saturday line up at Relentless Nass festival 2009 and to add to the highly anticipated announcement we have some more new additions including punk, reggae activists The King Blues, brit alternative rockers Attack! Attack!, hardcore four piece Hexes, riff legends Jettblack, metal shredders Sharks and fast rising pack Turbowolf complete the first announcement for the ‘rock day’ at Relentless NASS Festival 2009.

Relentless NASS is also happy to announce its third stage, currently known as the Exmoor Bar. Friday night will witness Daniel P. Carter of the Radio 1 Rock Show followed by Kerrangs very own Katie P while Saturday will play host to the Propaganda Club Night featuring Andy Burgess and The Postman. Both Friday and Saturday will be opened by the awesome NASS favourites, the Streetwise DJ’s.

BLOC FESTIVAL 2009 - REVIEW

BLOC Festival 2009 by Alex Cox @ http://www.skateparkpages.com/

March 13th to 15th saw some of the most extraordinary alternative musical talent on the planet fuse forces to create what is the amazing BLOC festival. This year’s BLOC rave was held at Butlins, Minehead. Bloody good call peeps. Sic venue. Sic Line Up. This was gonna be BIG.

This was a first for Skatepark Pages and we bloody loved every minute of it from the damn right filthy and twisted bass lines down to the plushest festival accommodation around. All bases had been covered to create a varied, vibrant and exciting musical line up – it was like a who’s who of cool right now. A lot of names you had heard of subtly blended with the up and coming talent. If you are into the alternative music scene this was a treat not to be missed and if you were not… what a great introduction. A big shout must go out to the BLOC organisers for hand picking a fine selection of artists who probably didn’t have a single release in the “charts” between them at that time. This gave a nice under ground feel to the festival despite it being held at Butlins - one of the biggest commercial holiday setup's in the UK.

Getting to Bloc was a doddle really which ever way you wanted to get there – by car, bus or coach. Regular departures from Bristol ensured no ravers were left behind. Once there a smart, twin room chalet welcomed you in complete with shower and T making gizmo’s. Forget living in your normal flooded, mud drenched canvas shell this was festying (is that a word?) in style!

The resort itself has plenty to offer as well as the banging tune selection. The main focal point being the massive white canvas towers which housed a multitude of shops and hang out spots. Located in the centre you had a kind of interaction zone with several stalls, DJ’s and a digital graffiti wall. Sic.

The hardest thing about this weekender was choosing who NOT to go and see!
So much talent on display and only so many hours of raving available – god damn it!

Me and Dan were on the hunt for a nice Dub bass line and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry did not disappoint. I’m trying not over hype it but it was simply legendary. He held the whole crowd in a lifted, catatonic state in the palm of his hand and then released them back into the wild when he was done. It was an experience that will live with me for ever. So hard to put into words. Almost spiritual. It didn’t matter he started 1hr 30 mins late – it was well worth the wait.
Mad Professor was also a treat to behold bubbling away like a dark dub cauldron.

Another personal highlight was Beardyman. BIG set. Big Sound. We even managed to sneak 10 minutes of his sound check. About 10 of us listened as he pummelled bass lines into the arena – most of which he had generated with only his mouth and a Kaos pad.

Dubstep has come along way in the past 6 or so years and it was evident here. Some of the heaviest sets of the weekend belonged to Skream b2b with Benga, Rusko, Joker, Plastician, Kode 9, Martyn, 2562, Vex’d, Pinch, Rustie and AppleBlim. The Bass heads in the place were definitely not disappointed!

To top it all off Altern 8 played a beast of an old skool set to remind people of where the music we enjoy today spawned from.

So in summary it was a bloody great weekend with so many DJ’s not to be missed. Quality sound systems and visuals that delivered each and every time served with plush after raving accommodation.

Big thanks to all the BLOC Festival for the tickets and a chance to experience music how it should be.

Live, Loud and Surrounded by Mentalist Ravers. Nice 1
Big Shout to the Muff massive in attendance. You know who u r!

Check the line up you missed –unreal. BLOC 10 - a defo date for the diary.
