Freestyle Festival 2009 - Offical Press Release

Freestyle Festival arrives in London, featuring Sebastien Foucan - Founder of Freerunning

Brand new participation based Freesports Festival comes to Alexandra Palace
Sat October 31st/Sun November 1st 2009 including action sports and music.
The Freestyle Festival launches its first event this October in Alexandra Palace, the stunning 12,000 capacity venue in North London. The brand new festival blueprint will mean an exhilarating weekend of action sports, live art shows and Freerunning alongside a music line-up of epic proportions all under one roof. Not only will some of the worlds’ biggest action sports names be competing against each other but the public are also able to get coaching from their idols.
Igniting the stage on Saturday 31st October will be My Passion. Having racked up some key festival action at Download Festival, T in the Park and nominated for best British newcomer at 2009 Kerrang! Awards they promise to hit the stage all fired up. This City will join them straight from their European tour with Eagles of Death Metal. Main Stage headline act are Washington State Trio MXPX who have released seven albums to date and are ready to step up to the plate and amp things up at Freestyle Festival. On Sunday 1st November The Crave will unleash a typically charged set and Starseed, nominated for Best Live Band at the Indy Music Awards, will leave you moshing, screaming and crowd surfing for more. Pennsylvania based rock and roll force CKY headline the main stage on Sunday and promise to purge some tension with multi-textured melodies and heady drumming.
The Freestyle Festival invites you to participate alongside and get up close to some of the biggest talent in the action sports industry in a truly open environment. Four interactive arenas will take in BMX, Skate, Inline, B-boy, Graffiti and Freerunning. The worldwide recognised founder of Freerunning, Sebastien Foucan, graces the event with his presence over both days and will be providing the opportunity for the public to take part in his workshops. Sebastien’s skills have taken him on tour with Madonna as well as onto the set of James Bond in recent years.

Sebastien is central to the design element of Freerunning at the Freestyle Festival experience and commented: “When I first sat down with Freestyle, I said that I would be interested in developing an educational space for people to experience it for the first time. I believe that Freerunning is about finding your own path. The Freestyle Festival is providing me with an opportunity to communicate my way to the public."
Further justifying its status as one of the most creative and inclusive events out there, Freestyle Festival also welcomes B-Boy crews and graffiti artists to showcase their styles plus encourage the public to participate. Freestyle Festival are working in conjunction with the international humanitarian organization ‘Right To Play’ who use sport and play programs to improve health and develop life skills for children in 23 countries affected by war, poverty and disease in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America. This overwhelming commitment to support young talent flows all the way through the event with BMX, skate and inline riders all taking time out to coach enthusiasts. Places are limited so early sign up is essential via www.freestyle-festival.com.
Freestyle Festival is also giving unsigned acts the opportunity to enter their Main Stage band competition and welcomes Alex Baker from Kerrang! Radio who will select the best bands for the huge opportunity to perform LIVE on the mainstage alongside the headline acts. The Top 50 artists will go up on the Freestyle Festival website for public vote.
Aside from coaching, both UK and global action sports stars will be leading an assault on the 12ft vert ramp and battling it out on a custom built street course. Confirmed skaters Sam Bosworth and Sam Beckett are already taking vert skating to new levels and will be leading the charge for the UK. Internationally acclaimed BMX riders Mark Webb and Ben Wallace have more competition medals than they know what to do with; keep an eye out for Mark’s double tailwhips on the mini ramp. Also check out top Inliners Sebastien Keep, Rich Parker and Chaz Sands. With £6,000 prize money up for grabs between the street and vert setups, expect the competitions to go off.
Based out of the West Hall, B-Girl Firefly and B-Boy MC Trix will be joined by international and UK crews to battle it out for the Freestyle Title and £1,000 prize money as well as teaching and running classes. Expect an amazingly charged atmosphere as the teams go head to head in competition with nothing but mutual respect for what everyone brings to the event.
Monorex Graffiti artists present their famous Secret Wars art battle and are scouting for graffiti talent with prizes of £100 and the opportunity to go head to head with the Secret Wars elite crew in a showdown of epic proportions.
Asked about the never seen before event format, Chris Callaway, Freestyle Festival Founder commented“ We felt that it was important to encompass urban sports as a whole; the festival is a place for people to come and express themselves whatever their art form is. Whether it be physically, musically or even artistically.”
